Caroline Harris (1937 - 2016)
On December 23, 2016, Caroline Nadine (ne Nelson) Harris of Strathmore Ca. passed away peacefully at her home after a short illness.
Caroline was born March 7, 1937 in Lindsey to Woodrow and Martha (ne Harder) Nelson at Lindsey Hospital. Caroline attended Strathmore elementary and High School graduating in 1955. She went on to attend College of the Sequoias studying accounting and art. On Valentine's Day 1957 Caroline married Earl Junior Harris and they made their home in Strathmore.
Caroline held many positions in her varied work career her main employers were Strathmore Pack where she eventually worked in the office and her accounting skills were utilized and Scicon, Tulare County Science School where she was a cook. She retired from Scicon 9 years ago.
Caroline was a member of many community and philanthropic organizations such as 20 Ands and Strathmore Town & Country Club. Both organizations are active in scholarship programs. The Barn Theater in Porterville was Caroline's true passion in life. In her over 40 years with the Barn she served in numerous roles including president, secretary\treasury, director, actor as well as set designer. She also loved to cook and prepare menu for the many dinners at the Barn.
Her other interests included movies, the theater, the symphony, Jazz Festivals, traveling, music, especially Tom Jones and Neil Diamond. Caroline loved going to Disneyland and Magic Mountain with her kids and grandkids and was still riding roller coasters into her late seventies.
A Celebration of Life for Caroline will be held at The Barn Theater in Porterville Saturday Dec 31st for 1:00-4:00pm refreshments will be served. There will be a service at 1:00 officiated by Associate Pastor Steve Hopper from Hillside Community Church which Caroline was a member of.
Caroline was preceded in death by her husband Earl Junior Harris, her parents Woodrow and Martha Nelson and brother Wayne Foster Nelson. She is survived by her son Wayne (Bobbie) of Olympia WA, daughter Cathy (Rick) of Strathmore and son Kenneth (Gay) of Havana, Il, grandchildren Catrina (Ben) Mahill, Christopher Harris, Anthony Hester and Magen Harris, Brother Robert (Cheryl) Nelson, Strathmore, one aunt many nieces, nephews, cousins and beloved friends.
