Our Town takes place at the turn of the 20th century in the small town of Grovers Corners, New Hampshire. The play is narrated by the Stage Manager, who explains events, makes commentary and sets the scenes of this everyday drama. The play follows the lives of two families, the Gibbses and the Webbs, over a span of fourteen years, from 1901 to 1913. Thornton Wilder won a Pulitzer Prize for this masterpiece, considered one of the best American plays ever written. Staged with minimal props in order to focus attention on the great truths which are revealed, it is a treat for the imagination. This is a great play for young people to see today, since it points out the beauty of an ordinary day and how each one should be savored. We are offering special rates if teachers would like to make Our Town a class assignment. Click here to read the Porterville Recorder's review of the production. |
